Some people may forget –
Sewers are separate from StormWater Drains

The truck is equipped with very large water tanks and high powered pumps
delivering approximately 60+ gallons per minute at upwards of 2000 psi .
The water pump is a specialized hydraulically driven, dual acting unit, that delivers
a jack hammer action water flow, breaking through line blockages, and scouring
caked-on debris from pipe walls.

The rotating element and nozzle jets scour the surface of the pipes
loosening hard debris such as soap and grease buildup;
mineral deposits, small roots, etc.
Mud, sand and other sediments are easily flushed away.

Since the manhole was located out in the middle of a lane,
the crew temporarily blocked traffic via another truck to
protect the workers from oncoming traffic.

Sewer systems typically run parallel to streets, housing, and structures.
They are engineered as gravity flow systems, built on a slight grade ;
to assist material flow. Often they are designed to convey material
at a velocity of around 2 feet per second. Debris buildup can slow
down the velocity; causing solids will settle out of the flow;
accumulating at the bottom of the pipe, reducing flow capacity,
and eventually cause a stoppage.
Perhaps you noticed the elevation numbers (in green on map link below)
as the Red Run flows from the West/left to the East/right.
