DWSD Nefco DTE equal dollar signs

July 27, 2014

Water is on everyones mind in the Metro Detroit area.
What folks tend to overlook is sewage, solid waste.
DWSD has partnered with NEFCO to create biosolid fuel pellets
which can be used at DTE power plants to produce electricity.

NEFCO will make amazing amounts of money via DWSD contracts
for the drying/processing of sewage sludge for Detroit.
Remember the Synagro contracts worth literally a Billion dollars ?

An article at WaterWorld entitled
How water utilities are turning waste into resource
written by Angela Godwin (Volume 28 issue 7) says
“”Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD),
for example, will provide DTE Energy Services (DTEES)
with 800,000 wet tons of biosolids annually
— biosolids that would otherwise have been incinerated.
DTEES will further process the biosolids into pellets
that it will sell to its River Rouge Power Plant
and other utilities that currently burn coal.
The EPA has shown dried biosolids have
lower contaminant levels than coal.

It takes a little while to see the BIG picture of what is
all involved with a system as large as the DWSD.
There are many puzzle pieces and lots of money involved.
2014 will be an interesting year indeed.
