~Former Warren mayor Mark Steenbergh has been hired
by Macomb County Public Works Commissioner
Anthony Marrocco to serve in a newly created job
labeled the community wastewater services manager.

~Steenbergh’s salary is $53,794 a year and he will
work in a new, seven-person public works division
that will oversee Macomb’s portion of the
Oakland-Macomb Interceptor, a massive sewer
purchased from the city of Detroit that services
11 Macomb communities.

~In his new position will act as a liaison to local officials,
the media and the public on issues related to the
Oakland-Macomb Interceptor: sewer rates and rate increases,
fees, capital improvements, state/federal grants, and general concerns.

~Steenberghs first day on the job was Oct. 31,2011
Anthony Marrocco and Deputy Public Works Commissioner Gene Schabath
are the only ones allowed to comment on matters concerning Steenberghs hiring.
Steenbergh’s hiring was handled via the county Human Resources Department.

~Anthony Marrocco and Steenbergh served together on the
county Board of Commissioners in the 1980s.

~The HR representatives who participated in the Steenbergh interview
were Anthony Marrocco’s top aides :
– Bill Misterovich, deputy public works commissioner;
– Dino Bucci, operations manager;
– Gene Schabath, deputy for government relations.

~The job posting preferred a college degree but Steenbergh has no degree.
Steenbergh was enrolled at Sterling College in Kansas in 1974
He also attended Northern Michigan University in 1973
At both schools, he majored in history/art.

Mark Steenbergh has also been President at the Groesbeck Group LLC
